Top Scots Comedian To Host Leuchie’s Ascot Fundraiser

Favourite Scottish actress and comedian, Elaine C Smith, is set to play a lead role in Leuchie House’s biggest annual fundraising event this summer.

Acclaimed for her starring roles in Rab C Nesbitt, City Lights and The Steamie, she will bring her trademark wit and banter to the national respite centre’s Ascot Afternoon.

The charity’s glamorous social event will return for the fifth consecutive year on Thursday 22 June, hosted by Elaine and with an exciting new format. In taking on the role she said she was “happy to be able to help such a worthwhile cause.”

Taking place in a themed marquee in the grounds of Leuchie House near North Berwick, the afternoon will begin with a drinks reception, followed by lunch, then a chance for guests to try their luck on the horses during live streaming of the day’s races from Ascot.  In another new addition to the day, local jazz and blues band Blue Thursdays will round off the afternoon with live music.

Top brands are also lined up to give their support to the day by sponsoring the event. Five- star Edinburgh boutique hotel, Prestonfield House, will be the headline sponsor underlining the glamour and luxury associated with the event.

Local success-story NB Gin will sponsor the drinks reception at the beginning of the afternoon, with their exclusive Cross The Line cocktail set to get the day off to a racing start.

Leuchie’s Fundraising Development Manager, Lana Bambridge said: “Our Ascot Afternoon is a hugely important event for Leuchie, having raised almost £60,000 over the past four years. We felt it was the perfect time to refresh the format, keeping the overall feel of the day but giving our guests something even more special to look forward to. We’ve been thrilled at the response we’ve had since we launched this year’s event, and having Elaine C Smith as our host is the icing on the cake.

“Sponsorship from Prestonfield House and NB Gin is invaluable too, making the event extra special and ensuring even more of the proceeds can go towards Leuchie’s work in supporting people living with MS, Parkinson’s and a wide range of other long term health conditions.  We are also extremely grateful for the generosity of local businesses who have been donating auction prizes and offering their support in lots of other ways. We really couldn’t do it without them. Tickets are already selling fast so we’d advise people to book quickly!”
