Leuchie celebrates reasons to be thankful on Giving Tuesday

Following the annual shopping frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Leuchie House is asking people to give back to charity on Giving Tuesday.

Taking place on 29 November this year, Giving Tuesday is a global day when people are encouraged to take a break from the commercialisation and consumerism of the pre-Christmas season and give to charities or causes that they care about.

Leuchie House is hoping people will take a moment to celebrate all that they have to be thankful for and donate £5 to help give more disabled people a break.

Leuchie House provides short respite breaks for people who have MS, Parkinson’s, motor neurone disease and other long term conditions. In the days leading up to 29 November, Leuchie is sharing some of the things the people who use their service have said about the respite centre, and asking supporters to share them on social media.

Leuchie’s Fundraising Manager, Lana Bambridge explains: “In the run up to Christmas, it’s easy to lose sight of the charitable side of the festive season while we’re all so busy shopping and getting ready for the big day. Giving Tuesday is a great time to stop for a moment and think about some of the things that really matter to us.

“We have a huge bank of amazing feedback from the people who come for short respite breaks at Leuchie, telling us about the difference it makes to them. We thought it would be great to use some of the things they’ve said they’re grateful for to encourage others to share their own reasons to be thankful and help us spread the word about Leuchie. While we hope people will feel able to donate £5, helping us to raise awareness of Leuchie House is also a big part of what we’d like to achieve on Giving Tuesday. We want as many people as possible to know about Leuchie so that everyone who needs our service knows we are here to help.”

Comments from guests that Leuchie have shared on Facebook and Twitter include one from Sheila who said: “People know when I’ve been to Leuchie. They can tell just by looking at me,” and one from Anne who said: “Being able to come to Leuchie is a joy. It’s like going into a world where everyone understands you.”
